Common Breastfeeding Challenges We Can Help With

Breastfeeding Pain and Physical Issues on the Sunshine Coast

What we most commonly see on a woman’s breastfeeding journey is nipple pain and sore nipples, mastitis symptoms such as redness, hardness and pain in the breast, pain in the breast and nipple during and outside of breastfeeding baby, and postpartum engorgement requiring relief. If you’re experiencing any of these on the Sunshine Coast or Gympie region, we offer personalised in-home support to get your breastfeeding journey back on track.

Milk Supply and Feeding Challenges

Low milk supply and oversupply are two of the most challenging issues we see. Whether you’re dealing with a forceful letdown, engorgement, low supply, mixed feeding concerns, or need help with expressing milk and flange fitting, we provide personalised guidance to find the right feeding approach for you and your baby.

Baby Tongue Tie, Weight Gain, and Feeding Concerns

If your baby has tongue-tie symptoms, difficulty with latch, or you’re worried about slow weight gain, we conduct thorough oral motor assessments to understand what’s happening. We also support families managing baby allergies, intolerances, breast and bottle refusal and aversions, and other feeding difficulties that impact your baby’s growth.

Meet Mikahla,

IBCLC Lactation Consultant on the Sunshine Coast

I am an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), with almost 10 years as a Speech Pathologist/ Feeding Specialist at Sunshine Coast University Hospital (SCUH), supporting families with infant feeding.

This experience has taught me how to work with babies and families on the most common issues, such as;

  • Poor latch

  • Mastitis and postpartum engorgement

  • Supply issues

  • Transitioning to solids

  • Breast and nipple pain

To more medically complex infant feeding challenges:

  • Cleft lip and cleft palates

  • Tongue tie and oral-motor delays.

  • Swallowing concerns.

  • Feeding aversions

  • Feeding after cardiac/respiratory issues with babe

  • Tube weaning

Every feed matters.

Support matters.

A safe space to express concerns, time, and be nurtured as a mother as you nurture your baby MATTERS.

As a result, I have made all of our appointments 2 - 2.5 hours long so we are not rushed. I can stay for a full feed and provide endless education and hands-on help to our mamas in the way they need and as their situation calls for. I also provide 1 week of SMS/email support to all of our mamas for follow-up, double-checking, and the unexpected. This support system has been created over time, through my working with many mamas and discerning their needs and what's actually required for them to reach their breastfeeding goals.

Outside of work, I’m a mum myself, and I live right here on the beautiful Sunshine Coast with my family and our animals. I know how overwhelming feeding challenges can feel, and I’m excited to support you and your baby on your feeding journey.

I can't wait to support you and your baby.

Mikahla x
