Tongue Tie, Weight Gain and Baby Feeding Concerns

Tongue Tie, Weight Gain and Baby Feeding Concerns - Expert Assessment on the Sunshine Coast

When your baby isn't feeding well and you can't quite put your finger on why, it can be incredibly worrying. If you've noticed latch difficulties, slow weight gain, feeding refusal behaviours, or you suspect tongue tie might be playing a role, I can help you get some real answers — in your own home, with plenty of time to work through it together.

What might you be experiencing?

These are some of the most common concerns I assess and support families with across the Sunshine Coast and Gympie region:

Tongue tie symptoms and assessment

My background in speech pathology and oral motor function means I assess not just whether a tie is present, but how it's actually affecting your baby's feeding - which makes all the difference when it comes to deciding next steps.

Latch difficulties

A shallow or ineffective latch can cause pain for you and mean your baby isn't getting enough milk. I take the time to observe a full feed, assess your baby's oral function, and work with you on practical adjustments that make a real difference.

Slow or poor weight gain

Worrying about whether your baby is gaining weight well is one of the most stressful parts of early parenthood. I can help identify whether a feeding issue is contributing and put a clear, manageable plan in place.

Feeding refusal behaviours or feeding aversion

This can be very stressful to you and your baby. You know your baby is hungry and yet they refuse to drink or eat. This can greatly affect growth and the feeding relationship. I provide support to resolve your baby’s feeding aversion so that feeding is a positive experience for you both.

Allergies, intolerances and feeding difficulties

Some babies struggle with feeding due to allergies, intolerances or other underlying sensitivities. I support families in understanding what might be going on and how to adjust feeding to help your baby thrive.
